Metaphor

A Metaphor is the comparison of two UNLIKE things. Simile, personification, anthropomorphism and analogy are metaphors. Metaphors are used to help us understand the unknown, because we use what we know in comparison with something we don't know to get a better understanding of the unknown. A metaphor is a comparison. A metaphor establishes a relationship at once; it leaves more to the imagination.

Examples:

  • ***Life is a precious possession, death is a loss
  • ***Those crazy drivers are road hogs
  • ***Early bird
  • ***Her voice was music to his ears
